Chairman’s note (Pre-season 2023/24)

Welcome to our club. Thank you for taking the time to explore our club and visit our website.

I feel genuinely proud and privileged to be the chairman of the oldest amateur club in Northampton.

The club was officially registered in 1921 (as noted on our club crest); however, our history goes back even further, with records showing that the club was active as far back as 1903 when it is reported that the great Edgar Mobbs played for the club before serving his country in the Great War.

Edgar Mobbs played for the Heathens following the recovery of a knee injury, and from the Heathens, he went on to play for Northampton Saints as well as representing the East Midlands, the Barbarians, and winning his first England cap in 1909.

Mobbs was also given the biggest honor in English rugby of captaining his country against Australia in 1909.

The Heathens have a great and colorful history, and this is something we are extremely proud of as a club. We are doing all we can to ensure the history of our club is never forgotten and is passed down through the generations.

At the present time, we play our rugby at Northampton Old Scouts RFC. We are very grateful to our hosts for giving us a home and supporting our club.

Currently, we only have one senior squad, and I have to say I couldn’t ask for a better group of lads. I’m blessed to have an amazing backroom staff, club officials, and an amazing changing room atmosphere.

Outside of rugby, we believe that we have a wonderful family atmosphere, and there is a great spirit within the club. Kids, partners, and family members are as much a part of the club as myself and any of our players.

On the pitch, we play our hardest every game and ensure that we uphold the integrity and values of the sport.

We are always looking for new players to join us. No experience is needed, and anyone is welcome to come and give us a try. We train each Thursday from 7pm until 8/8:30pm, depending on the time of the year. Preseason has already commenced. We usually play on Saturday afternoons.

I would like to sign off by saying a huge thank you to our club sponsors. We are blessed with a range of sponsors who have provided us with ongoing support to keep this club running. Thank you all.

Best wishes,

Greek
